Shackleton, Columbus, Megallan and Mallory
Well, we're getting a little touchy about having to scramble down rocky inclines into ravines to trap kittens! It seems we're tempting fate to suppose we can do this over and over again without incurring injury.
This rescued family of "explorers" was picked up behind a large apartment complex, where their mama cat, Ainslee, had stashed them under some rocks in a ravine. They were thankfully spotted quite early in the game, when one of the tenants from the vantage point of an upper floor apartment saw them playing. With a little strategy, we were able to trap all the kittens in one evening, followed soon thereafter by their mama. We heaved a big sigh of relief that we got them so early, as this makes their socialization a much simpler and faster process. It also helps that their mama is a super sweet and friendly girlie (Ainslee has her own bio).
- Shackleton is a ginger marble tabby, also the only polydactyl, and he was the most outgoing kitten from the start, full of brash and swagger.
- Columbus is the ginger and white fella, and he is also bold and outgoing.
- Magellan is the other ginger tabby, this one a striped tabby, with an apparent "thumb" that suggests he is polydactyl. However this is not the case. Magellan has been more reticent than his outgoing brothers but he is also emerging as possibly the sweetest of the lot.
- Mallory is the lone female, the black tortie. Like most torties, she is feisty and opinionated but tends to take a bit of a back seat from her brothers.
Each one of the kittens has been spayed and neutered, vaccinated, tested for disease, micro-chipped and treated for parasites. As of mid-August, they are 3 months old.
It bears repeating that we ask that our kittens go to a home either in pairs or with another suitable cat for company, which allows them to continue to develop their social skills. We believe this to be an important aspect of their socialisation.
We ask for a minimum $175 donation for each of our rescued cats. A charitable tax receipt will be issued.
