Look at the stars in his eyes! O'Leary was rescued when he turned up at the home of one of our trappers in late winter, which made his capture in short order inevitable. He was definitely a timid fellow and there was no indication that he liked the company of humans, and yet he also didn't have a mean bone in his body. He just wanted to hide perpetually. Determined to persuade him that not all humans are nasty, evil creatures, we placed
O'Leary in a foster home with another friendly cat for company, and a place where the resident humans were prepared to exert all the patience in the world to get him back on track. Thankfully, after a few months of dedicated care, O'Leary has warmed up to them, where he loves to be petted and weaves around their legs by way of soliciting attention. Mind you, they are quick to point out that he also still likes to seek out hidey holes when not actively engaged in human interaction. The foster parents feel that O'Leary will continue to progress once he is placed in a forever home, where the adopter will give him all the time in the world to grow into "de man" that the otherwise unfortunate circumstances of his dumping had thwarted.
Because O'Leary is such a shy guy, we hope we can find him a quiet home environment, meaning no small children or lots of action; definitely no dogs. We think he will also benefit from having one or two other cats for companionship, who will continue to show him the way forward. He will likely regress at first, but we have every expectation that he will make up any ground that he has gained and then grow past that once he knows he is safe and loved.
O'Leary has received our routine panel of veterinary care, where he has been neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated, and treated for parasites. All dressed up waiting for somewhere to go!
We ask for a minimum $175 donation for each of our rescued cats. A charitable tax receipt will be issued.
