Mooney

These little kitties were discovered on the cusp of winter, just as the cold was settling in, shortly before Christmas. They were the latest in a long list of kittens born at a business location in Burnside. Previous litters tended to "vanish" according to the caregiver, and the few adult cats remaining at the location were young with the sole exception of their mama cat, the "queen". Clearly it was a tough place in which to survive. These guys were lucky in that they had someone interested in feeding them and providing shelter for them, even as he took a lot of grief from his employer in doing so, as if it was his fault that the cats were there. Someone managed to catch wind of the situation and reached out to the cat rescue community, with the information eventually trickling through to HCRS. Thankfully we were able to rescue all the cats in that particular colony before winter really struck
Because these kittens were a little older when we picked them up - guestimated to be 3-4 months - they are a little slower in their socialization than if we had caught them earlier. And like people, each kitten is a little different in how s/he has responded to this new life indoors. But they are coming along very well and we're very pleased with their progress. Here is a brief run-down on their personalities, according to their foster parents.
The other kittens mentioned above have been adopted. The only female of the litter is Mooney, having long black hair with a hint of brown. She has been the hold out in allowing us to get close, but food is definitely the ticket to winning her over.
Mooney has been spayed and needled, and been tested for disease and treated for parasites. Because she is still a work a progress, we would hope to find her a quiet home with at least one other cat for company, which would boost her courage and make her feel more comfortable as a result. Patience and love are the key ingredients in winning her over.
We ask for a minimum $140 donation for each of our rescued cats. A charitable tax receipt will be issued.
