“No heaven will not ever Heaven be. Unless my cats are there to welcome me.” - Anonymous
Our cats are our heart and soul. If ever there were people who understand this, they are the volunteers of HCRS.
This page is dedicated to those cats who have gone on to brighter days, while staying forever in our hearts. If you have made a donation to HCRS in the memory of a cat in your life that has passed, please email us their story and a few pictures to hcrsfundraising@outlook.com so we can post them here. We would love to hear how they enriched your lives.

Ripley
My friend's grandmother's cat had had kittens and I went to meet them with a boy kitten already in my heart. I sat at the kitchen table for the usual Cape Breton tea time and up came Ripley. She stood on her hind legs and gave my hand a nose kiss, and that was it - she was mine. Ripley was with me for my entire twenties. She moved where I moved, even when it meant a tiny bachelor apartment. She was my faithful buddy for 12 years. She developed diabetes and so I gave her two insulin needles a day. She sat patiently while I tested her blood a few times daily, and did very well; her diabetes was managed. One day, years later, she got ill - a complication of diabetes that included an unknown infection. It was a long weekend and before we got tests back it was too late. By then I had a husband and while he drove I held her in my arms in the car. The sun shone on her face and it was incredible: she was at total peace. Together my husband and I said our goodbyes, leaving the clinic with our sunglasses on and our hearts as heavy as they've ever been. Ripley is the reason I have volunteered with HCRS for 3 years. She is the reason I have adopted 4 other cats. She showed me what commitment and love meant, and now I help other cats because of her. -Maggie |
