Hatch
Hatch was discovered by lucky chance in a distant 'burb of Halifax when a resident left out an empty ice-cream container on the deck and surprised him licking up the remnants. He immediately took off like a lightning bolt, but the resident is a seasoned cat rescuer and knew that it was likely he was abandoned or feral. She borrowed one our traps and after a week-long campaign of habituating him to the trap, we had him in our clutches. Hatch initially presented as extremely fearful, but there was otherwise no defensive hissing or striking out, which led us to believe he was indeed an abandoned friendly. Good thing we know to look for these things, as Hatch has turned out to be a lovey-dovey kinda guy.
This is what Hatch's foster dad has to say about him:
Hatch is awesome. The first evening he was paralyzed behind the toilet. But the next day he jumped onto my lap a couple times - he squirmed around for a few minutes and then jumped down. And was rolling over and stretching at the foot of my chair. He seemed very comfortable by the 3rd day but was definitely "on guard" and skittish from anything that surprised him for about a week. He's very energetic, and needs several play sessions a day. He'll play on his own some, but also will follow me around until I get the laser pointer out which he goes bonkers over. He doesn't like to be picked up, but I suspect he might get used to it over time. He'll run and jump, and make himself comfortable in the fridge as soon as you open it. His claws have always been fully retracted whenever they're near me which is pretty amazing. Clipping front and back nails aren't too hard. And to my surprise he genuinely seems to like his chest rubbed. He doesn't lie on top of you like other cats, but I'd say Hatch is more affectionate in his way. He has never shown the slightest amount of anger, aggression, frustration or anything. I'd adopt him if I could. Whoever gets him will be lucky. He's one of the best cats I've met.
Hatch was first fostered for a spell by his rescuer, and she said that Hatch seemed to wanted to play with her other cats, but was awkward and a bit too rough with them. This suggests to us that Hatch would love another cat in his forever home, but there would be a period of adjustment while Hatch got his sea-legs in the social department.
Hatch has been fully vetted, meaning he has been neutered, microchipped, tested for disease, treated for parasites and vaccinated. Hatch is guestimated to be young, probably around 1-2 years of age.
We ask for a minimum $200 donation for each of our rescued cats. A charitable tax receipt will be issued.
