Fernie & Carlina

Fernie & Carlina

Fernie is a sweet, friendly cat that we believe was abandoned in the Clayton Park area of Halifax.  She turned up at a feeding station we established to catch another female cat and her kittens.  Fernie wasn’t our priority initially, but once we finally got the other family trapped and tucked away, we turned our attention to her.  Imagine our surprise when we discovered that she too was nursing kittens out there somewhere!  In a panic, we immediately sent a volunteer out to survey the area for sightings of Fernie’s kittens and lo and behold – amazingly! – a kitten was sighted in the rocks in a nearby ravine.  Some quick and careful sleuthing turned up all of Fernie’s three kittens and we were able to trap them shortly thereafter.

As it happens, Fernie’s three kittens were already big galutes when we picked them up (guestimated to be 4 months old) and we worried that getting them socialized would be a challenge.  You can perhaps appreciate our relief to learn that Fernie was so friendly, which became our “in” to socializing the kittens.  We ended up keeping the whole family together to allow Fernie’s gentle disposition and casual, friendly attitude toward humans to rub off on her kittens. And it worked!

Carlina (female, gray/white) is the hissey one of the litter, but we now regard it as her form of “expression”, as she is quite gentle once she gets to know you.  She loves having her head and back scratched while giving her squeezable treats.  She is the luvins offered by her mama and mixing it up with her littermates.

Fernie is thought to be between 1-2 years old and the kittens are now guestimated to be about 7 months old (December 2019).  Each one of the cats has been fully vetted and they are ready to be adopted by the purr-fect purr-son!  A quiet home environment is best, and we prefer that the kittens be adopted either in pairs or to a home with at least one other cat for company.

We ask for a minimum $200 donation for each of our rescued cats. A charitable tax receipt will be issued.
