Abba

Abba was a special rescue for us. We were approached by a nurse who knew that Abba was all alone in an apartment after her owner was taken to hospital and ultimately admitted to palliative care. While someone had been feeding Abba occassionally, she was left alone for weeks with minimal interaction and, when we went to pick her up, no food or clean litter. She was stressed to say the least, but even in between swats and hisses, she would rub against her rescuer and purred when a kind word and a gentle pet were offered.

Once in foster, Abba did have a rough first week or two. She was obviously stressed and tramatized from the weeks she was alone and missing her human, but now she was in a new place and she had her guard up. Abba is a strong calico personality and we thought it was best to let her be and give her time to adjust to the new foster home to see if she'd come around. She did. Meanwhile, we sent pictures and updates to her owners to lift his spirits. Sadly, he passed away, but his nurse assured us that our helping out made all the difference to him and that he will rest well knowing she is well cared for.

Abba was originally thought to be a forever foster candidate, but after time in her temporary foster home, she has blossomed into a friendly cuddle bug, and we see no reason why an outright adoption isn't possible. She just needs that first adjustment period and then she's good to go. Her current foster has become quite taken with her, but she is moving in April so we'd like to find a forever home for Abba now.

Abba's foster mum says:

"Abba is a classic 'scaredy cat' and had a bit of a rough start when she first came to live with me, but after a week or so as she gradually felt more comfortable in her new environment she totally warmed up and transformed into a sweet and snuggly lap cat. She's still jumpy and needs a quiet space, and, as an older cat, she has her particularities (a clean litter box is required, thank you very much!), but she's gentle and loves company and will spend all afternoon curled up next to me on the couch or in a sunbeam on the window sill. And, despite her plumpness, she's pretty spry and will go crazy chasing a piece of string and can find her way into some unusual hiding places! Abba will make a great and loving friend for anyone with the patience to let her get to know you."

Abba was already spayed, treated for parasites and tested negative for feline disease  - her previous owner loved and cared for her well. Abba is approximately 8 years old.

We ask for a minimum $140 donation for each of our rescued cats. A charitable tax receipt will be issued.
